Certified Burnished Gold Eagles

Burnished Gold American Eagles are just like the burnished Silver American Eagles. They, too, were introduced in 2006 for the 20th anniversary of the Gold American Eagle. These coins have a unique finish. Burnished coins have a soft, matte-like finish. They're somewhat shiny, but not as shiny or as reflective as a proof. Nor do they have the mirror-like fields that proof coins do.

Beyond the finish, these coins also have lower mintages that uncirculated or proof coins and often sell at prices lower than the proof examples do. These burnished coins also have the “W” mintmark, indicating that they were struck at the West Point Mint.

Add certification by either of the two most trusted independent third-party grading services – the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and you have an unbeatable combination. Many collectors and investors assemble collections of burnished Gold American Eagles in SP69 or SP70, the two top grades. It is a worthwhile challenge to assemble a complete set in a particular, matching grade.
