More About This Collection
About Certified American Gold Eagles
Certified American Gold Eagles are among the most popular modern U.S. gold coins collected today. First introduced by the United States Mint in 1986, the American Gold Eagle combines iconic American design with professional third-party certification from leading grading services such as PCGS, NGC, and CAC.
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' celebrated Lady Liberty design, originally created for the $20 Gold Double Eagle. American Gold Eagles are struck in a durable 22-karat gold and are available in four sizes: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. Certified American Gold Eagles are available in a variety of grades, including MS70 and PF70, making them a popular choice among collectors seeking exceptional quality and eye appeal.
The History of the American Gold Eagle
The American Gold Eagle was authorized by the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 and first released by the United States Mint in 1986. Since its introduction, the series has become one of the most recognized modern U.S. coin programs.
From 1986 through mid-2021, the reverse featured Miley Busiek's Family of Eagles design. In 2021, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse depicting a detailed portrait of a bald eagle designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. The introduction of the Type 2 design marked the most significant change in the history of the American Gold Eagle series and increased collector interest in both Type 1 and Type 2 Gold Eagles.
Why Collect Certified Gold Eagles?
Certified American Gold Eagles offer collectors the confidence of professional authentication, accurate grading, and long-term protection. Whether you are searching for PCGS Gold Eagles, NGC Gold Eagles, CAC Gold Eagles, Mint State Gold Eagles, Proof Gold Eagles, key dates, or special releases, the American Gold Eagle remains one of the most widely collected and recognized modern U.S. gold coin series available today.
