More About This Collection

Moy Signed Commem Coins

Edmund C. Moy is an American businessman who happened to serve as the 38th Director of the United States Mint. Moy was a member of the White House staff and held numerous positions at the highest level of politics. He greatly assisted in the original formation in the Department of Homeland Security.

Moy served as Director of the United States Mint from 2006 until his resignation in 2011. As a coin collector for most of his life, Moy had a special affinity for coin collecting programs. During his reign as Mint Director, he led the Mint in creating the special 20th Anniversary American Gold and Silver Bullion Coins. In addition, the 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 Gold Double Eagle, the Presidential Dollars and the America The Beautiful Quarters Programs were all launched during Moy’s term as Director.

During Ed Moy’s tenure as Director of the United States Mint, the United States Commemorative Coin program was undergoing a renaissance. It was originally begun by Congressional action in 1892 and it ran successfully until 1954. The Modern Age of Commemorative Coins began again in 1982 with the issuance of the George Washington Bicentennial Commemorative Half Dollar.

The modern commemorative coin program is strong and during Moy’s tenure (2006-2011) as Director of the US Mint, the Mint struck and sold 12 different Commemorative Coin Programs, comprising 18 different coin designs, in 38 possible different types.

Ed Moy’s signature on the label insert for any of these modern commemorative coins is truly prized and is a valued keepsake of a young coin collector who became the Director of the United States Mint.
