Why are the Apollo 11 Coins released by the US Mint so special?LCR Coin, Inc.
Many of us were kids when man walked on the moon. Apollo 11 50th Anniversary coin celebrates this achievement. This happened on July 20, 1969, as Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” E. Aldrin, Jr. took mankind’s first steps on the Moon. Now these kids are coin buyers in the 50’s and 60’s. Collectibles tend to do best when the potential collector remembers the item from their childhood and the Apollo 11 Coins hit all the marks. Space, coins, history and American accomplishment.
Seldom have I seen a Mint launch met with such excitement. It has come in waves. First the Mint release of the coins with original government packaging in January which sold out in minutes. This was followed by bulk submissions to the grading companies, PCGS and NGC. The coins were submitted in both a business strike as MS70 and a Proof version from PCGS as PR70DCAM and NGC as PF70 Ultra Cameo. The coins were the $5 Gold Coin, Silver Dollar Coin, Clad Half Dollar Coin and Five Ounce Proof Silver Dollar Coin. Some companies are offering the MS69 and PR69 or PF69 but we never recommend buying modern collectible coins as investment coins in these grades.
One set of coins that has stood out has been Proof Half Dollar and the Kennedy Enhanced Reverse Proof Half Dollar with the Kennedy label. This product is limited to 100,000 units. People really have been connecting with this set of coins with this label and the Kennedy connection.
The program is a hit. All coins are selling as fast as they are available and all buyers seem totally satisfied with their purchases. If you have been considering buying one or all 8 versions of these coins we agree and as long as they are available, we are shipping. It seems clear demand will out strip supply on this one and it is first come first serve.
