Silver Eagle Sets
The American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin has been struck annually since 1986. This is the most popular and most widely collected silver bullion coin in the entire world. The US Mint struck coins with the same obverse and reverse designs from 1986 through 2021. This series of coins is called the Type I style American Silver Eagle.
Halfway through 2021, the US Mint decided to give the reverse heraldic eagle design a change. A new reverse, depicting a bald eagle in flight, was designed, and was struck also bearing the 2021 date. This new design, called the Type II style American Silver Eagle, should be struck well into the future.
A complete date set of American Silver Eagles, Type I, from 1986 to 2021 comprises 37 different coins. If you add both of the Type II American Silver Eagles (from 2021 and 2022) your total set comprises 39 coins.
If you wanted a complete set of all American Silver Eagle bullion coins, including Proofs, Enhanced Proofs, Reverse Proofs, Burnished Uncirculated coins, and those with the US Mint Privy marks ( for the 75th anniversary of World War II), the total currently stands at 106 total coins. But it is certainly possible to acquire one of each of these dates and types and many collectors enjoy adding to their set each year.
