In 1906 San Francisco is hit by an earthquake that devastates the city. The Mint building, with its solid construction, survives the earthquake and ensuing fire with only damage to its gas works, which halts coin production for a time. The Mint was the only financial institution capable of operating immediately after the disaster and became the treasury for disaster relief funds, performing other emergency banking services as well.. Add to these the fact that all our sets are offered Certified in NGC holders in perfect PF70, signed by the designer of the reverse, John Mercanti. In modern collectible bullion coins this is the best performing investment year after year.
